I am so excited about great new venture "Families that Stick" will be undertaking! Beginning the first Tuesday in October. We are going to start an online book club - reading through "Shepherding a Child's Heart" by Tedd Tripp. If you are interested in joining us, please leave a comment on this blog. I love this book because, it really challenges us to put all our "parenting techniques" through the filter of God's Word. Throughout history, parents have swung on the pendulum from authoritarian parenting to permissive parenting (and everything in between). There is a better way! Instead, we must follow God's Word and apply the teachings of humility, submission, authority, grace, forgiveness and self-control to every area of our lives... especially, parenting!
This book goes beyond the surface of obedience, to a place of heart obedience. It makes me think of the old cartoon, ...a little child sitting nicely in a chair...but, in the thought bubble he was exclaiming, "I'm standing up on the inside!!" That's not what we want our children's hearts to look like (or their thought bubbles!!) This book's main theme is to challenge parents to truly shepherd the HEART, because then the honest actions will follow.
We will be reading a chapter a week and I hope you all will interact with the questions, ideas and thoughts from each chapter. I know this will be a blessing to your family and your children.
