We used to get tons of snow in Chicago...these past few years we've only had about one snowfall a year. Whenever it snows, we generally will take our family day and sled (because it may be our only chance). This year we had a fantastic day sledding...then, ended our day by voting on the best sled. Results below.
SLED RESULTS - these results are unscientific and not to be trusted because we had only 4 voting members and 2 of us were so frozen, we couldn't raise our arms to cast our ballots.
Sled # 4 - Light foam. We didn't have enough snow. This sled was pretty worthless. Israel went down the hill o.k., but not fast.
Note: running and flinging yourself down on your tummy does not feel the same as when you did this as a kid. Consider yourself warned.
#3 - Hard plastic, worked well but totally unsteerable. We won't mention which two adults ended up in several bushes on the way down the hill.
#2 - Little Red - plastic, single seater- This was my vote for best sled. It was really fast and steerable. And I didn't injure my posterior as I did on the #1 sled.
#1 sled - this red metal sled is the classic and it is still the best sled around! Works fabulous in wide variety of snow depths and types. You can ride single or double and, best of all, you can steer!
Warning: This sled goes waaaay too fast if rocketing two adults down a cliff of death, with a rock pile immediately proceeding a lake of solid ice. So, if you decide to bail out behind your husband and jump off mid-way through the bloodcurdling plummet of demise, be prepared not to be able to seat oneself without considerable discomfort for several days, as this sled sits about a foot off the ground. Just a casual observation, not that it happened to anyone, in particular. ;)
Wishing your family many happy days together,
Kristen
